18 June 2025 – The Embassy of Malaysia in Japan, as Chair of the ASEAN Committee in Tokyo (ACT), hosted the ACT Consular Briefing Session for consular officers from the ten ASEAN embassies in Tokyo. The session aimed at providing updates and insights on key consular matters to the ACT consular officers. Also in attendance was Mr. Anwar Udzir, Deputy Chief of Mission.
The session featured an informative presentation by representatives from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department (TMPD), who shared recent trends and data on crimes involving foreign nationals. The briefing also highlighted ongoing efforts by the TMPD to ensure the safety and well-being of foreign residents and visitors in Japan, as well as to strengthen collaboration with foreign missions on security-related issues. In addition, legal experts from Adire Legal Professional Corporation delivered a comprehensive presentation on Japanese labour laws, with a focus on challenges faced by foreign workers. The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session and networking opportunity, further fostering cooperation and mutual understanding among ASEAN diplomatic missions in Tokyo.
The briefing session provided a valuable platform for ACT consular officers to exchange views, raise questions, and explore collaborative approaches to addressing common consular challenges. It also served as a meaningful initiative under Malaysian Embassy’s ACT chairmanship to enhance the capacity and preparedness of ASEAN missions in handling consular and legal matters affecting their nationals in Japan.
