ASEAN COMMITTEE IN TOKYO (ACT) FAMILY DAY, 26 SEPTEMBER 2015

ACT Family Day 2015 was held at the Embassy of Lao PDR in Tokyo, Japan on 26 September 2015. The annual event was initially planned to be held at the recreational Kasai Rinkai Park, Edogawa. However, due to inclement weather, the venue had been changed to the Embassy of Lao PDR, in its capacity as the organizer for this year’s annual event. There were about 130 guests comprising homebased staff (HBS) as well as locally recruited staff (LRS) from all ASEAN Member States participated in this event. Among notable guests were the Honorable Naoki Takashima, President of the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) and other TMA members. The Embassy’s contingent led by HE Dato’ Ahmad Izlan Idris, Ambassador of Malaysia to Japan was represented by a total of 12 HBS.

The event was officiated by Lao's Ambassador and President of the TMA was subsequently invited to deliver a remarks. ACT Heads of Missions and their spouses along with representatives from TMA participated in the 'Bowling on Carpet Competition'. Singaporean Team led by HE Chin Siat Yoon, Ambassador of Singapore and spouse won the first prize whilst HE Dato’ Ahmad Izlan Idris, Ambassador of Malaysia to Japan and spouse were the second runner up and HE Thurain Thant Zin, Ambassador of Myanmar and spouse, won the third prize. Other activities include the lecture and demonstration on ‘ikebana’, the art of Japanese flower arranging as well as traditional Japanese tea ceremony. Guests were then invited to enjoy food served from various ASEAN countries. Among the dishes prepared by ACT Malaysia were biryani chicken and bihun, and traditional cakes such as curry puff and honeycomb cake.
