10 February 2025 – Mr. Shusaku Otomaru, Director of the International Division, Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC), met with Mr. Anwar Udzir, Deputy Chief of Mission, to briefed and extend an invitation on an upcoming JOGMEC’s event. The ASEAN-Japan Mineral Investment Seminar, scheduled to be held on 19 February 2025 will be represented by Mr. Shamsul Shahril Badliza Bin Mohd Noor, Undersecretary (Mineral & Geosciences) of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability of Malaysia.
During the meeting, Mr. Otomaru outlined the objectives of the seminar, which aims to strengthen cooperation between ASEAN countries and Japan in the mineral and energy sectors. He highlighted the potential for increased investment, technology exchange, and sustainable resource management as key discussion points.
Mr. Anwar Udzir welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to continue fostering regional collaboration in mineral development, emphasizing the importance of responsible and sustainable mining practices. He also expressed appreciation for JOGMEC’s role in facilitating dialogue and knowledge-sharing between industry stakeholders.
The Embassy looks forward to Malaysia’s participation in the seminar and hopes that the discussions will pave the way for greater engagement in the mineral and energy sectors between ASEAN, particularly Malaysia, and Japan.
