17 June 2025 – The Special Select Committee on Security, House of Representatives of the Parliament of Malaysia, led by H.E. Syed Ibrahim bin Syed Noh, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Dato’ Shahril Effendi Abd Ghany, Ambassador of Malaysia to Japan. Also in attendance was Captain Wan Baderul Hisan Wan Muda, Defence Attaché of the Embassy. The Committee was in Tokyo for a working visit from 16 to 20 June 2025.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, with a focus on Malaysia–Japan bilateral cooperation in the areas of defence, national security, and regional stability. Dato’ Shahril briefed the Committee on the Embassy’s efforts to advance Malaysia’s security-related interests abroad, particularly through the enhancement of defence diplomacy and engagement with Japanese counterparts. In response, the Committee outlined its mandate and current priorities, and conveyed its interest in gaining insights from Japan’s strategies and best practices in addressing security challenges.
The visit reflects Malaysia’s commitment to fostering a deeper understanding of international security dynamics while enhancing institutional cooperation and diplomatic outreach through the Parliament’s select committees.
