


26 September 2023 – The Embassy of Malaysia in Tokyo received a visit from Sekolah Menengah St. Patrick, Tawau, Sabah – the winners of the 2020 Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation – Japan Education for Sustainable Development Award (2020 SEAMEO – Japan ESD Award). The visit was headed by Mr. Lee Voon Ken, the School Principle, Ms. Wong Lin Fui, Coordinating Teacher, students from St. Patrick, Tawau as well as representatives from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (MEXT) and SEAMEO.
The delegation was received by Mr. Imran Yusoff, Counsellor of the Human Resource Development and Mr. Md Jeffry Joe Meyer, Second Secretary of the Embassy. During the visit, Counsellor Imran applauded the students for their remarkable achievement at the SEAMEO – Japan ESD Award. SM St Patrick's Tawau became the first school in Malaysia to beat 181 schools from eight Southeast Asian countries in this competition.
The SEAMEO – Japan ESD Award is held annually since 2012. The programme which is conducted by SEAMEO and MEXT in cooperation with UNESCO Bangkok aims to promote the ESD best practices in schools across Southeast Asian countries. The Embassy of Malaysia in Tokyo, Japan would like to take this opportunity to congratulate SM St. Patrick for their achievement.
