10 October 2025 – H.E. Dato’ Shahril Effendi Abd Ghany, Ambassador of Malaysia to Japan, was pleased to have the opportunity to meet with Professor Kohei ITOH, President of Keio University, at their main Mita Campus in Minato-ku. The meeting was also attended by the Vice President for Global Engagement, Professor Motohiro TSUCHIYA, and the Deputy Director of Global Engagement, Ms. Ai NAKAGAWA. The Ambassador was accompanied by the Counsellor (Politic – Economic Affairs), Ms. Nora Azlinda Jaapar, and the Counsellor (Human Resource Development), Mr. Imran Yussof.
During the meeting, H.E. Dato’ Ambassador expressed his appreciation for the invaluable support of Keio University in co-organizing the Commemorative Lecture by YAB Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Anwar Ibrahim in May last year. Both sides had exchanged views on the current political, social, and educational issues, covering both domestic and international matters.
The Ambassador explained that Malaysia is expanding the Look East Policy (LEP) with a focus on strategic sectors that will position the nation to better navigate technological shifts and encourage more collaboration between Keio University and Malaysian higher education institutions. The President, in response, provided some details on existing cooperation with several Malaysian higher education institutions in various fields. The meeting enabled both sides to explore potential synergies and deepen collaborative partnerships in education and research initiatives, aligning with the LEP.
