
13 September 2023 – Mr. Anwar Udzir, Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) accompanied by Mr. Md Jeffry Joe Meyer, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Malaysia in Tokyo call on Mr. Fukuda Chihiro, Senior Director of Southeast Asia and Pacific Department, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) at JICA Headquarters (Kojimachi). Mr. Fukuda was accompanied by Mr. Hashimoto Hidenori, Senior Deputy Director as well as Mr. Watanabe Kohei, Deputy Assistant Director of the Southeast Asia Division 1 (Malaysia & Indonesia) of JICA.
The meeting was intended for the new DCM to introduce himself and re-established a working relationship between the Embassy and JICA. He also conveyed the appreciation of the Government of Malaysia for JICA’s support and contribution specifically through Third Country Training Programmes (TCTP). Mr. Anwar also took the opportunity to explore potential areas of collaboration between Malaysia and Japan particularly in the field of science and technology; green technology and renewable energy which are in line with Malaysia-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership as well as ASEAN’s net zero emissions commitment.
MTCP and JICA began collaborating as development partners as early in 1992. To date, more than 4,800 officials from MTCP recipient countries have participated in numerous TCTP-JICA courses organised by over 35 Malaysian training institutions. Courses of interest are mainly in the areas of economy, good governance, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, training for trainers (ToTs) on Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as well as agriculture.
