A total of 30 Malaysian students and six supervisors, alongside their counterparts from India, Myanmar and Taiwan under the Sakura Science Plan (SSP) were celebrated at a Closing Ceremony and Farewell Party held in JICA Tokyo on 13 May 2016. The group has successfully completed a-7 day Sakura Science High School Program from 8 – 14 May 2016 in Japan. Datin Norfaliza Ismail, First Secretary of the Embassy of Malaysia in Tokyo, Japan attended the ceremony on behalf of the Embassy to deliver a speech and bid farewell to the group.
The program aimed to enhance exchanges between Asian and Japanese youth, raising their interests in science and technology, thus contributing towards the promotion of science, technology and innovation in Asia. True to its inspiration, the one-week program has covered various places of culture, science and technology interests around Tokyo including visits to the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation “Miraikan”, Tokyo University of Science and Tokyo Institute of Technology, Kamakura and Edo Tokyo Museum, as well as close interactions with Nobel Laureates Prof. Takaaki Kajita and Prof. Hideki Shirakawa.
Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) aims to receive more than 1000 participants in 2016, with 35 eligible countries are expected to take part in eight cohorts.
