9 March 2024 – YBhg. Datin Suriyah Abdullah, spouse of the Ambassador of Malaysia to Japan, attended the Malaysia Gohan (Dishes) Travelogue Exhibition organised by a Japanese Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) - Hati Malaysia. The four-day event featured Ms. Oto Furukawa’s journey to eight cities in Malaysia in her efforts to learn and experience the best home-cooked dishes from Kuala Terengganu, Penang, Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur/Selangor, Malacca, Johor Bahru, Kudat and Kuching.
Ms. Furukawa who is a Malaysian Food Culture Writer and WAU Magazine Editor, has also conducted event talks on Traditional Malaysian Sweets and Malaysian Home Cooking (featuring Mr. Johari, Ms. Furukawa’s friend and former Keio University student). The event witnessed the participation of Japanese food enthusiasts.
The Embassy would like to congratulate Ms. Furukawa for the successful exhibition and wishes to collaborate with Hati Malaysia in future gastro-diplomacy events to further promote Malaysian food culture.
