22 January 2025 – Mr. Anwar Udzir, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy, attended the special screening of the award-winning Malaysian film “Abang Adik” (Brothers) at Human Trust Cinema, Yurakucho. The event was organised to promote the film ahead of its official release in cinemas across Japan on 31 January 2025.
Around 100 Japanese movie enthusiasts, including film critics, industry professionals, and members of the public, attended the screening. The audience was captivated by the film’s powerful storytelling and compelling performances, which highlight themes of resilience, brotherhood, and social issues.
At the end of the screening, a talk session was held between Ms. Atsuko Tatsuta, a blogger and film journalist, and Ms. Natsumi Osa, the translator responsible for the Japanese subtitles of this movie. They discussed the film’s artistic vision, cultural significance, and impact on international audiences. The engaging discussion provided valuable insights into Malaysian cinema and its growing presence on the global stage.
The Embassy hopes that “Abang Adik” will not only entertain Japanese audiences but also foster a greater appreciation for Malaysian storytelling and filmmaking.
