21 February 2023 – The Heads of Mission of the Southeast Asian countries were invited for a meeting with H.E. Hayashi Yoshimasa, Foreign Minister of Japan, at the request of the latter.
The Meeting discussed the preparation of the Commemorative Summit for the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation which will be held in December 2023.
The Meeting also discussed the ongoing tension between Russia and Ukraine. Both Japan and ASEAN Member States expressed their hopes for all parties involved to seek a peaceful and amicable solution to the conflict.

Dato’ Shahril Effendi Abd Ghany, Ambassador of Malaysia to Japan took the opportunity to expressed Malaysia’s commitment in enhancing the bilateral ties between Malaysia and Japan, as well as through ASEAN platform. H.E. Ambassador Dato’ underlined Malaysia’s long standing national position on the need to consistently uphold the principles of respect of the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of States, as embodied in the UN Charter.
