The Honourable Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Minister of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia led a Trade and Investment Mission to Japan from 6 to 11 July 2008. He was accompanied by 37 officers from various Government authorities such as Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI); Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA); Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE); State Governments of Melaka, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Sabah and Selangor; and other Government agencies. 26 members representing Malaysia?s private sector also formed part of the delegation.
Two seminars on ?Business Opportunities in Malaysia? were held in Osaka and Yokohama on 7 July 2008 and 9 July 2008, respectively. The seminars received encouraging participation from Japanese investors, businessmen and entrepreneurs. As many as 435 participants attended the Osaka Seminar and 623 participants attended the Yokohama Seminar. In Osaka, Tan Sri Muhyiddin took the opportunity to meet and hold dialogue with Malaysian students. In Yokohama, the minister also delivered a keynote address at the 28th JAMECA-MAJECA Joint Conference which was held on the same day of the Seminar. A message from YAB Prime Minister was delivered at the Joint-Conference by Ambassador of Malaysia to Japan, H.E. Dato? Mohd. Radzi Abdul Rahman.
While in Tokyo, Tan Sri Muhyiddin took the opportunity to meet with his counterpart, Mr. Akira Amari, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan to discuss various issues of interest, aimed at further advancing economic relations between the two countries. Tan Sri Muhyiddin also held roundtable meetings with Kansai Economic Federation (KANKEIREN) and Japan Business Federation (Nippon KEIDANREN).
The Trade and Investment Mission to Japan was the first led by Tan Sri Muhyiddin since holding the portfolio of MITI Minister.
