Photo Exhibition '1 MALAYSIA' at the Embassy of Malaysia in Tokyo
A photo exhibition with the theme '1 MALAYSIA' was officially opened at the Embassy of Malaysia in Tokyo on 20 August 2009. In his opening remarks, Mr. Zakri Jaafar, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim stated that the theme '1 Malaysia' was chosen to highlight the initiative put forth by Prime Minister Dato' Sri Najib Tun Razak. The initiative serves as his guide and goal for his premiership; that is to take Malaysia, a young nation of 27 million to new and greater heights; to forge a new level of nationhood out of the various races. He added that the scenes and moments portrayed by each photograph displayed at the exhibition tells a story about '1 Malaysia' in its own unique way.
The photos depicting Malaysia as a multi-racial country living in harmony are the work of 22 Malaysian photographers which had been on display earlier in other parts of Tokyo as well as in Hokkaido. The photo exhibition is made possible with the cooperation of The Photographic Society of Japan.
Around 100 guests including Japanese government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, friends of Malaysia and Malaysians living in Tokyo attended the opening ceremony and the reception which followed. H.E. Mr. Toshitake Kuwahara, Mayor of Shibuya was also present at the opening ceremony.
Guests were feted to Malaysian dishes such as meehoon goreng, assortment of Malaysian kuehs such as kuih bakar, kuih cara berlauk, kuih kosui, and karipap, prepared by members of PERWAKILAN Tokyo.
