23 October 2025 – In conjunction with the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur, the Embassy of Malaysia in Japan jointly organised a Public Diplomacy Programme at Shumei University, Tokyo. The Embassy was represented by Mr. Jeffry Meyer, First Secretary, who delivered a lecture showcasing Malaysia’s charm and beauty, as well as ASEAN’s pivotal role in promoting regional unity, peace, and prosperity. The event was attended by nearly 30 students from the Faculty of Education, who actively participated throughout the session.
During the lecture, Mr. Jeffry shared insights into Malaysia’s uniqueness as well as its focus and key deliverables as Chair of ASEAN. The students also enjoyed a short interactive session learning basic Malay phrases, adding a cultural and linguistic dimension to their understanding. A lively Q&A segment followed, where students expressed keen interest in Malaysia’s multicultural society, education system, and its contributions to ASEAN’s growth and regional cooperation.
The programme successfully strengthened mutual understanding and friendship between Malaysia and Japan, while promoting greater awareness of ASEAN’s collective vision among Japanese youth. It also enhanced students’ appreciation of Malaysia’s cultural diversity, fostered interest in ASEAN regional affairs, and encouraged deeper engagement between academic institutions and diplomatic missions. The initiative exemplified the Embassy’s ongoing commitment to public diplomacy and people-to-people connectivity, serving as a valuable platform to inspire the next generation to explore opportunities for collaboration within the ASEAN community.
