21 October 2025 – Mr. Jeffry Meyer, First Secretary of the Embassy, was invited to deliver a lecture at the Faculty of Education and Integrated Arts and Sciences, School of Human Sciences, Waseda University. The event, attended by both students and faculty members, aimed to deepen their understanding of Malaysia as a multicultural and dynamic nation. The programme was also held in conjunction with the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur, where Malaysia serves as the ASEAN Chair.

During the lecture, Mr. Jeffry spoke about Malaysia’s rich cultural diversity and the longstanding bilateral relations between Malaysia and Japan. He also highlighted Malaysia’s roles and responsibilities as the ASEAN Chair, underscoring the importance of regional cooperation and Japan’s constructive engagement with ASEAN. The session also featured an interactive component where students learned basic Malay phrases and participated enthusiastically in a Q&A and quiz session.

The programme successfully enhanced the students’ appreciation of Malaysia’s culture, values, and diplomacy, while strengthening people-to-people ties between Malaysia and Japan. The event also served as an effective platform to promote Malaysia’s visibility and leadership as the ASEAN Chair, reinforcing its image as a country that values inclusivity, sustainability, dialogue, and regional cooperation. Through this outreach, the Embassy was able to project Malaysia’s soft power and foster greater awareness among Japanese students of Malaysia’s role in advancing peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
