REMARKS BY
H.E. DATO’ KENNEDY JAWAN
AMBASSADOR OF MALAYSIA TO JAPAN
FOR THE
ASEAN CHAIRMANSHIP HANDING OVER DINNER
EMBASSY OF MALAYSIA IN TOKYO
2 JULY 2020
Excellencies Ambassadors and CDA of ASEAN Embassies in Japan,
Officers,
Ladies and Gentlemen.
A very good evening and welcome to the Embassy of Malaysia once again.
First and foremost, I wish to thank our ACT colleagues for their presence here today. Though we are in the midst of embracing a new normal, I appreciate your support during our Chairmanship of the ASEAN Committee in Tokyo from January to June 2020.
- As the chair of the ACT for the past six (6) months, I must admit it has been quite a different experience as we have had to cut down and change our usual way of working and engaging with each other due to the pandemic.
- We had managed to organise two meetings during this term, the first in February before the pandemic hits Japan and the second one earlier last month in June. This would not have been possible without the support rendered by all the ASEAN Embassies, especially in the sharing of best practices and information from your respective home countries, that has helped us in going through this tough times.
- On the task of arranging the courtesy call with H.E. Motegi, we are still working with Gaimusho in securing a suitable date and will inform all Embassies accordingly.
- Moving forward, as my six months term has come to an end, I would like to express our utmost appreciation again for the support and cooperation extended by all of Your Excellencies and your officers.
6. I also take this opportunity to extend our best wishes to H.E. Mr. Myint Thu, Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar as the in-coming Chairman of ACT. We hope all the ASEAN Embassies will continue providing its support and assistance to our colleagues from Myanmar as the next chair of ACT.
Thank you.
