STATE VISIT OF THEIR MAJESTIES THE YANG DI-PERTUAN AGONG AND THE RAJA PERMAISURI AGONG TO JAPAN 1-5 OCTOBER 2012
Their Majesties the Yang di-Pertuan Agong XIV, Almu’tasimu Billahi Muhibbuddin Tuanku Alhaj Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah and the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah undertook a State Visit to Japan from 1-5 October 2012 at the invitation of His Imperial Majesty Emperor Akihito of Japan.
Their Majesties the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Raja Permaisuri Agong were accompanied by Tunku Temenggong of Kedah Tan Sri Tunku Sallehuddin ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah, Toh Puan Temenggong of Kedah Puan Sri Tengku Maliha Tengku Ariff, Tunku Panglima Besar of Kedah Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Tuanku Alhaj Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah and the Minister of Higher Education Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, as the Minister in Attendance and senior officials from Istana Negara, Prime Minister’s Department and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the visit, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Raja Permaisuri Agong attended a State Call with Their Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko. Their Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko also held a State Banquet in honour of Their Majesties the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Raja Permaisuri Agong. The Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Raja Permaisuri Agong has also received the audience by Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda and wife at the Akasaka State Guest Palace.
The visit had provided the opportunity for both Heads of State to renew their personal rapport and friendship established since the visit of Emperor Akihito to Malaysia in 1970 in his capacity as the Crown Prince, when the current Yang di-Pertuan Agong hosted the visit in his capacity as the Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong. Their Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko have also visited Malaysia in 1991 and 2006 in their capacity as the Emperor and Empress of Japan. The last State Visit from Malaysia to Japan was made by His Majesty Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin ibni Almarhum Syed Putra Jamalullail, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong XII from 6-13 March 2005.
During the visit, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong also attended a Business Luncheon jointly hosted by the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Japan Business Federation, Japan Association of Corporate Executives, Japan External Trade Organisation and Japan-Malaysia Business Committee; while The Raja Permaisuri Agong visited the Fukuin-Ryo Orphanage House located in Setagaya-ku, Tokyo.
Their Majesties the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Raja Permaisuri graced the Majlis Santapan Malam arranged by the Embassy of Malaysia in Tokyo during which the Malaysian community in Tokyo had the opportunity to pay their respect to Their Majesties.
