6-7 July 2023 - H.E. Dato’ Sri Azalina Othman Said, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Legal and Institutional Reforms) led the Malaysian delegation to the ASEAN-Japan Special Meeting of Justice Ministers; and ASEAN-G7 Justice Ministers’ Interface in Tokyo, Japan.
The Minister was accompanied by YBhg. Datuk Ahmad Terriudin bin Mohd Salleh, Solicitor General, Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC), YBhg. Dato’ Sri Khairul Dzaimee bin Daud, Director General of Legal Affairs Division, Prime Minister’s Department and Mr Anwar Udzir, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Malaysia in Tokyo. H.E. Dato’ Sri Azalina co-chaired both meetings together with H.E. Mr Saito Ken, Minister of Justice of Japan.
The ASEAN-Japan Special Meeting of Justice Ministers saw the adoption of the Joint Statement and the ASEAN-Japan Work Plan on Law and Justice. This is the first time for ASEAN to hold a dialogue with a non-ASEAN country, Japan, in the field of legal and judicial affairs.
Malaysia also welcomes the establishment of the ASEAN-G7 Interface as a historic step towards fostering closer cooperation between ASEAN Member States and G7 Countries in the field of law and justice.
