WORKING VISIT OF YAB TUN DR. MAHATHIR MOHAMAD
FORMER PRIME MINISTER OF MALAYSIA
TO JAPAN, 21-27 MAY 2012
YAB Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, former Prime Minister of Malaysia undertook a six-day Working Visit to Japan from 21 to 27 May 2012. The visit was at the invitation of Nikkei Inc. to attend the 18th International Conference on the Future of Asia held in Tokyo. At the Conference, YAB Tun Dr. Mahathir delivered a speech entitled “Asia’s Role in a Tumultuous World – In Search of a New Growth Model” which was followed by an interactive session with the participants of the Conference.
In addition to delivering the speech at the Nikkei Conference 2012, YAB Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad also attended a dialogue session on 23 May 2012 with members of the Japan-Malaysia Parliamentarians’ Friendship League headed by former Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama, as well as attended interviews by local and foreign Medias namely Nikkei Media, Bloomberg and Middle East’s Pan Orient News. YAB Tun Dr. Mahathir also received courtesy calls by several Japanese corporate leaders, Toyo University’s President and Board of Directors and the Governor of Saitama Prefecture.
During the visit, YAB Tun Dr. Mahathir also had the opportunity to tour the world's tallest broadcasting tower and Japan's biggest new landmark, the Tokyo Skytree on 24 May 2012. The tower was officially opened to the public just two days prior to the visit of YAB Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad on 22 May 2012.
