The ASEAN Committee in Rabat hosted an ASEAN Day Reception and Flag Hoisting Ceremony on 8 August 2017 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN. The reception was held at the Royal Thai Embassy in Rabat as Thailand is currently the Chair of the ACR for 2017. The event was graced with the presence of Mrs. Mounia Boucetta, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of Morocco and was well attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Morocco as well as ASEAN colleagues in Rabat.
The ASEAN Day marks the anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN through the signing of the ASEAN Declaration on 8 August 1967 by the Foreign Ministers of Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, namely: H.E. Mr. Adam Malik, H.E. Tun Abdul Razak, H.E. Mr. Narciso Ramos, H.E. Mr. S. Rajaratnam, and H.E. Mr. Thanat Khoman. The Declaration was signed in Bangkok and is also sometimes referred to as the Bangkok Declaration.
