Visit of YB DFM to Myanmar


YB Dato’ Hamzah Zainuddin, Deputy Foreign Minister of Malaysia visited Myanmar on 13-17 November 2013, as a member of the OIC Contact Group Fact-Finding Mission to the Rakhine State. Malaysia was invited by the OIC Secretary General Professor Ekmeleddim Ihsanoglu, who led the delegation. Other members of the delegation include the Foreign Ministers from Turkey and Djibouti, as well as Senior Officials from Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. The delegation attended briefings by and held delegations with Myanmar’s President, Vice President (1), Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Border Affairs, Minister of Immigration, Vice Speaker of the Parliament, as well as representative of UN agencies and the Myanmar Peace Centre in Nay Pyi Taw. During their visit to Maungdaw and Sittwe in the Rakhine Sate, the delegation was briefed by the Chief Minister of Rakhine and managed to hold discussions with community elders from Buddhist and Muslim groups. They also visited the Muslim IDPs Camp in Thak Kay Pyin.
