YB Datuk Mary Yap Kain Ching, Deputy Minister of Education (I) of Malaysia was in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman for a 3 day official visit to participate in the Global Education For All (GEM) Meeting from 12 -14 May 2014. YB Datuk Mary Yap was joined by a delegation of senior officers from the Ministry of Education, Malaysia to attend GEM which serves as a global platform for dialogue and coordination for development goals related to education.
The delegation was received by YBhg. Dato’ Rustam Yahaya, Ambassador of Malaysia to Oman and was later hosted to an Arabian dinner at the famous Kargeen Restaurant in Muscat. The GEM attracted over 300 participants from about 50 regions and countries of UNESCO members attending the Senior Officers Meeting including the participation of the Ministers of Education from Bolivia, Egypt, Lesotho, Senegal, Sudan and Tunisia whom attended the Ministerial Meeting.
Aside from attending the GEM, YB Datuk Mary Yap and delegation from the Ministry of Education of Malaysia also took the opportunity to visit Mazoon University College; a prestigious institution of higher education in Muscat. The delegation was received by Dr. Juma Salih Al Ghailani, Managing Director of Mazoon University College whom later gave an introduction about the institution. Discussions on future collaborations were also held to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries in the field of education.
