Malaysians in Moscow Celebrate Qurban Bayram

25 sheeps were sacrificed during this year's Aidiladha or Qurban Bayram festivities organised at the Embassy of Malaysia as a rememberence of Prophet Ibrahim's ultimate sacrifice as called upon him by Allah Almighty. This is the first time such event is done at the Embassy after a long hiatus of almost 20 years.

The programme started around 1030 hrs, almost immediately after the completion of the Aidiladha prayers which was held at the Embassy's main hall. 25 sheeps, brought in specially from a far some 4 hours away from Moscow, arrived the night before and were comfortably housed in the garage for the big day.

With the assistance of the students around Moscow which turned up in large numbers for the event, the programme turned out very well with all 25 sheeps were slaughtered and skinned before Friday prayers which left the second half of the day separating the primal cuts from the carcasses and packing it for distributions.

While talking to all of those involved with the event over a feast of lamb soup after the event, Dato' Mohamad Khalis, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Russian Federation thanked all of those involved in making this programme a success. Dato' Ambassador also said that apart from remembering the events relating to the Prophet Ibrahim, the programme today has also allowed Malaysians of the Muslim faith in Russia to meet and work together. In addition, Dato' Ambassador reminded all those who were present to continue with the spirit of working together, not only among Muslims but among all Malaysians inline with the 1Malaysia concept preached by YAB Prime Minister of Malaysia.
