Delegation from USains Bhd. Visited Nakhon Sithamarat and Pattani, 19-21 October 2009

A delegation from USains Bhd., a private arm of University Science Malaysia, an entity which is established for the purposes of conducting R&D for public as well as private companies, visited Nakhon Sithamarat as well Pattani provinces on 19-21 October 2009.

The main objectives of the visit were to assess programme and efforts undertaken by the Thai government in assisting the hardcore poor in the country with the aim, wherever applicable, to emulate and introduce such programme in Malaysia.

Among the programme lined up for the researchers from the USains were visits to SMEs in Nakhon Sithamarat provice, visit to fruit ad vegetable orchids and a special visit to ‘Self Sufficiency Programme’ in Pattani: a project which is supervised by the Office of the Commander of 4^th Army Region. The ‘Self Sufficiency Programme’ in Pattani has been introduced with the aim of uplifting the economic and the standard of living of Thai people in the southern region, particularly those living in Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat.
