Loy Kratong Celebration in Songkhla and other parts of Thailand, 2nd November 2009

Thailand celebrated one of its most popular and romantic traditional festivals, namely Loy Kratong, on the night of the 2^nd November 2009 across the Kingdom of Thailand. Loy literally translates to "float", while Kratong is the Thai word for a sort of tray made out of banana leaves. Loy Kratong is celebrated by floating elaborate kratongs decorated with flowers, candles and incense on just about any waterway in the kingdom.

In Songkhla, the celebration for Loy Kratong festival was held in the evening of the 2^nd November 2009 at BP Samilla beach area, organised by the Songkhla Municipality. The event was attended by  Songkhla Governor Mr. Win Yu as well as the newly appointed Songkhla Mayor Dr. Pie Rak, who just won the election for the Mayor post a day earlier on 1 November 2009, as well as other foreign and local dignitaries.
