On 3 July 2024, Consul Ms Mardhiah accompanied Ms Ismah Sidek, Head of Corporate Banking EXIM Bank Malaysia to the the inaugural Symposium and Conference on the D-8 New Generation Barter Trading System at JW Marriott Hotel Marmara Sea. Also present was Mr Zahiruddin Basiran, MATRDE Istanbul Director.
The event was officiated by Deputy Minister of Trade of the Republic of Turkiye, His Excellency Mustafa Tuzcu. In his speech, Deputy Minister highlighted the strength of D-8 Member States in oil and gas importation and exportation, as well as the total combined number of its population. He underscored the need to expand D-8 intra-trade and that the barter trading system is beneficial and effective in overcoming specific challenges such as sanctions.
The Symposium and Conference discussed key issues and challenges on the implementation of the barter trading system among D-8 Member States.
