On 12 April 2018, the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the United Nations hosted a reception to formally introduced Malaysia’s candidature to the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) for the term 2019-2023.

In the short remarks delivered by HE Dato’ Sri Ambassador Muhammad Shahrul Ikram Yaakob, Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the United Nations, HE Dato’ Sri highlighted Malaysia’s aspirations and pledges for the aforesaid candidature, along with Malaysia’s achievements and ongoing efforts in forwarding the agenda of women at the national and international level.
3. On 16 April 2018, the CSW elections had taken place during the Coordination and Management Meetings of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), which saw Malaysia elected by acclamation by the members of ECOSOC to the CSW for the term 2019-2023.
4. Upon this election, Malaysia will continue work with all parties and also strongly believes that the CSW as an important avenue to generate momentum towards the full realization of gender equality and women’s empowerment, to be aligns with 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the realization of the commitments to the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.
