INTERVENTION BY

MR. MOHD HAFIZ OTHMAN

MINISTER COUNSELLOR

PERMANENT MISSION OF MALAYSIA TO THE UNITED NATIONS

ON AGENDA ITEM 70(a,b,c,d): HUMAN RIGHTS SPECIAL PROCEDURES

SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR ON THE SITUATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS IN THE PALESTINIAN TERRITORIES OCCUPIED SINCE 1967

NEW YORK, 23 OCTOBER 2019

THIRD COMMITTEE OF

THE 74TH SESSION OF THE UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY

Thank you Mr. Chair, and Special Rapporteur for your valuable briefing today.

1. Malaysia remains strongly committed to supporting the efforts to protecting and promoting human rights and dignity of our Palestinian brothers and sisters. This is not a matter of charity. In fact, we see this as a matter of responsibility of the international community.

2. At the same time, Malaysia urges Israel to end the violations of numerous international law, such as those committed by the Israeli security forces against the Palestinian, including innocent women and children. Israel has an obligation to investigate alleged violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law by its security forces and to prosecute those deemed responsible.

3. My question to Special Rapporteur is: In addition to the economic measures that you proposed in your report, how best can member states and international community assist in ensuring accountability as well as reparations for violations committed by Israel?

Thank you, Mr. Chair.
