INTERVENTION BY
H.E. SYED MOHAMAD HASRIN AIDID
PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF MALAYSIA TO THE UNITED NATIONS
AT THE VIRTUAL ORGANIZATION OF ISLAMIC COOPERATION (OIC) GROUP AMBASSADORIAL MEETING
ON AGENDA ITEM 1: BRIEFING BY THE DEPUTY PERMANENT OBSERVER OF THE STATE OF PALESTINE TO THE UNITED NATIONS
NEW YORK, 10 MAY 2021
Thank you, Mr. Chair, for organizing this meeting. I would also like to thank our sister, Ambassador Feda (Abdelhady), for the briefing.
Malaysia stands in solidarity with the people of Palestine on this issue. We strongly condemn the incursion and attacks by the Israeli occupying forces and Israeli settlers against the Palestinian civilians and worshippers in Al-Aqsa Mosque. We also strongly condemn all forced evictions of Palestinians from their homes, including those in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood of East Jerusalem. And we call upon the international community, particularly the Security Council, to act swiftly and decisively to respond to the latest Israeli aggressions.
Malaysia continues to stand in strong solidarity with the people of Palestine in the wake of these Israeli aggressions. We fully support the proposals for the OIC to issue statements and to send letters to the President of the Security Council and General Assembly, as well as for calling the General Assembly to meet if the Security Council fails to act on this issue. And of course, we also support the proposal for other organizations such as the Non-Aligned Movement to also issue a similar statement.
I thank you.
