On 6 December 2018, the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the United Nations hosted a reception to formally introduced Malaysia's candidature to the United Nations Commisson on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) for the term 2019-2025 dated 6 December 2018. The UNCITRAL elections will take place in UN Headquarters, New York on 17 December 2018.

In brief, HE Dato' Sri Ambassador Muhammad Shahrul Ikram Yaakob, Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the UN highlighted the importance of UNCITRAL as a platform for the promotion of progressive harmonisation and unification of international trade law, and as the core body within the United Nations system that could increase coordination and coordination in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
3. Last but not least, Malaysia has consistently supported UN resolutions related to international trade law, while participating actively in all meetings of the six Working Groups of UNCITRAL held in both Vienna and New York.
