AT THE INFORMAL INTERACTIVE DIALOGUE ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PACT FOR THE FUTURE : MONITORING AND EVALUATION

Mr. President,
Malaysia aligns itself with the statement delivered by the Philippines on behalf of ASEAN and welcomes this opportunity to highlight Malaysia’s national implementation of the commitments outlined in the Pact.
First, on adapting global commitments to national strategies: Malaysia underscores the importance of national ownership and policy coherence. The Pact for the Future provides a unifying vision, but its success depends on how well it is translated into actions that reflect local realities. In Malaysia, we have aligned our Twelfth Malaysia Plan (2021–2025) with the Sustainable Development Goals Roadmap, ensuring that global ambitions are embedded within national development priorities, particularly around inclusive and sustainable growth.
Second, on challenges and accelerators: Among the key challenges in monitoring are financing gaps and capacity constraints at the subnational level. However, accelerators do exist. Digital innovation, public-private partnerships, and youth engagement have proven to be powerful game changers in our context. The Malaysia SDG Centre, for example, plays a catalytic role in data integration, fostering a whole- of- society approach, and capacity-building across local authorities.
Third, on monitoring and evaluation: Malaysia emphasizes the need for transparent, nationally led monitoring frameworks that are aligned with existing international mechanisms. We advocate for the strengthening of Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) to foster trust, ownership, and accountability. At the same time, we must respect the integrity of existing multilateral mechanisms.
Mr. President,
The success of the Pact hinges not only on what we commit to, but how we implement it. Malaysia stands ready to collaborate with all Member States in this collective endeavour.
