PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF MALAYSIA
TO THE UNITED NATIONS
AT THE 399TH MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE ON THE EXERCISE OF THE INALIENABLE RIGHTS OF THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE (CEIRPP),
4 FEBRUARY 2020
Mr. Chair,
1. At the outset, I wish to congratulate you and the members of the Bureau on your re-election. Malaysia would like also to commend the Committee for its invaluable contribution in support of the Palestinian people. Malaysia will continue to support the work of the Committee in 2020, as we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the United Nations.

2. I would also like to take this opportunity to highlight Malaysia’s position regarding the Peace Plan announced by President Trump. Malaysia finds the proposed peace deal as utterly unacceptable. We believe the Palestinians have every right to reject it. Palestine, an aggrieved party that has been subjected to the prolonged Israeli illegal occupation, was never directly involved or even consulted in the formulation of the proposal. The proposal is heavily one-sided, seeking to reward Israel as the occupier at the expense of occupied Palestine and her people.
3. The proposal is clearly unfair to the Palestinians and will only perpetuate the injustices they have long endured. Malaysia stands by its position that the creation of an independent State of Palestine through the two-State solution, based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine, is the only viable solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. In this context, our Foreign Minister attended the Open-Ended Emergency Executive Committee of the OIC in Jeddah on 3 February 2020, in support of the OIC position to reject the proposed so called ‘Peace Plan’ by the US Administration.
4. Malaysia would like also to take this opportunity to commend Mr. Secretary-General for reaffirming the established position of the UN on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

5. With regard to the upcoming activities on the Question of Palestine, Malaysia through this Committee, will host an International Conference on the Question of Palestine in Kuala Lumpur, from 28-29 February 2020, with the theme “Southeast Asian Support for the Rights of the Palestinian People”. Separately, Malaysia will also host the 3rd Conference of The League of Parliamentarians for Al-Quds from 8-9 Feb 2020, with the theme “Towards an Effective Strategy to End the Occupation”.
6. We look forward to welcoming prospective participants to these two events in Kuala Lumpur.
