To all Malaysians in China,

DEVELOPMENTS CONCERNING THE CORONAVIRUS IN CHINA

The Embassy of Malaysia and Consulates-General in the People’s Republic of China are monitoring the outbreak of pneumonia cases caused by the novel coronavirus in Wuhan and elsewhere in China. The relevant authorities in China are taking several prevention and control measures to address this situation, including enhanced regulations for travel in and out of affected areas.

In light of these developments, the Embassy advises all Malaysians in China to keep themselves updated on the situation, via the local media as well as the websites of the Ministry of Health of Malaysia (http://www.moh.gov.my/), the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China (http://en.nhc.gov.cn/), and the World Health Organisation (https://www.who.int/).

All Malaysians should comply with relevant local health screening regulations in China, and avoid non-essential travel to Wuhan. Malaysians residing in China or planning their travel to and from China are also encouraged to take precautionary measures, including to:

- Wear a mask if outdoors and if unwell;

- Cover mouths with a tissue when coughing and sneezing;

- Observe good personal hygiene and wash hands frequently with soap;

- Avoid crowded places as well as contact with people who appear sick;

- Avoid unprotected contact with live and dead animals including raw and undercooked meat;

- Seek urgent medical assistance in case of respiratory symptoms.

Consular support may be constrained due to the Spring Festival season as well as prevention and control measures taken by local authorities. The Embassy reminds all Malaysians abroad or planning to travel overseas to register themselves via the e-Konsular service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia at https://ekonsular.kln.gov.my/ .

The Embassy of Malaysia will be closed for the Chinese New Year from 25 to 28 January 2020. However, Malaysian nationals in China can continue to contact the Embassy in Beijing or the nearest Malaysian Consulate-Generals in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Kunming, Nanning, Xi’an and Hong Kong.
