On 8 August 2017, the ASEAN Consulates General in Guangzhou, Guangdong province of the People’s Republic of China jointly organized an ASEAN High Tea Reception to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the founding of ASEAN and also to mark the 26th Anniversary of ASEAN-China Dialogue. The event was held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Guangzhou.
2. There are 8 ASEAN Consulates General based in Guangzhou with the exception of Brunei and Myanmar. All the ASEAN Consuls General were present at the event including the newly arrived Consul General of Vietnam. The Chinese side was represented by His Excellency Xu Ruisheng, Vice Governor of the Guangdong Provincial Government and Mr. Du Deqing, Deputy Secretary General of the Guangzhou Municipal Government. Other guests included members of the Consular Corps residing in Guangzhou, media, local Chambers of Commerce and think-tank. A total 100 invited guests were present at the event.
3. The event began with a short tribute and moment of silence as a mark of respect to the family and friends of Mrs. Maria do Cormo Barbieri, the Vice Consul from the Brazilian Consulate General in Guangzhou whom passed away on 1 August 2017. The Consul General of Malaysia (Dean of ASEAN CGs) represented the group to deliver a speech while His Excellency Xu Ruisheng represented the Guangdong Government in delivering a short remark. This was followed by a group photo session on the stage. The event ended about 4.30 p.m.
