On 7 July 2013, the Foreign Affairs Office of Guangdong hosted a breakfast meeting at the Dong Fang Hotel, Guangzhou. The meeting which aims to exchange information and discuss possible enhancement of cooperation between ASEAN Countries Consulates General in Guangzhou and the Guangdong Foreign Affairs Office was also participated by the Permanent Representatives of ASEAN Countries in Jakarta. The meeting was held as part of the visit programme for the Permanent Representatives of ASEAN Countries in Jakarta who were on their official visit to China.
The Consul General of Malaysia, Mr. Francisco Munis in his capacity as the Dean of ASEAN Consuls General also briefed the meeting on the progress and joint activities carried out by the ASEAN Consuls General in Guangzhou. With the opinions, suggestions and support given by the Permanent Representatives of ASEAN Countries, it is opportune for both the ASEAN Consulates General and the Foreign Affairs of Guangdong to enhance further their working relationship by establishing a new platform for quarterly consultation and dialogue. It is hope that the new platform/mechanism between ASEAN CGs - GD FAO can be established soon.
In participation during the meeting were their Excellencies the Permanent Representatives of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia (Dato’ Hasnudin Hamzah), Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore by its Deputy Permanent Representative. The Guangdong Foreign Affairs Office was represented by its Deputy Director General, Mr. Luo Jun and his officials. All the seven Consulates General of ASEAN Countries in Guangzhou were represented by respectively by its Consul General. Also participating were the Ambassador of China to ASEAN and officials of the ASEAN Secretariat.
