Former Prime Minister, YAB Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi passed away on 14 April 2025 at the age of 86. In honour of the late fifth Prime Minister and former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, the Consulate General of Malaysia in Guangzhou opened a condolence book for signing by the diplomatic corps of Guangzhou and the local Government of Guangdong, Fujian, Hainan, Hunan and Jiangxi Province on 15 – 17 April 2025.
2. The condolence book was signed by 53 representatives from the Chinese Government and diplomatic corps. Several Malaysians residing in Guangzhou and Shenzhen also came to offer their condolences.
3. The late Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi was fondly remembered by Chinese Government senior officials and fellow diplomats. During his administration, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi increased cooperation between Malaysia and China especially in educational and sociocultural fields and signed several agreements as part of ASEAN, including the ASEAN–China free trade agreement. He was also known for his moderate foreign policies and his contribution towards human capital development.
