The Trade Section of the Consulate General of Malaysia in Guangzhou has organized the participation of 33 Malaysian companies and 97 representatives to participate in the 110th Canton Fair, Guangdong Province, China, from 31st Oct to 4th November 2011. All the participating companies were housed in the Malaysian Pavilion.The Malaysia Pavilion is located in Hall 11.2 with the total space of 324 sqm.

The Malaysian Pavilion was officiated by Dr. Wong Lai Sum, Chief Executive Officer of MATRADE, together with Mr. Francisco Munis,the Consul General of Malaysia in Guangzhou, and senior Chinese government officials as well as the Canton Fair organizer on 31st October 2011. Focusing on the promotion of the Food & Beverages as well as the Health & Wellness sectors, the Trade Section (MATRADE) of the Consulate General of Malaysia in Guangzhou, has successfully organized Malaysia’s participation. This was also the first time for the Trade Section (MATRADE)to coordinate Malaysia’s participation in the Canton Fair.

In line with the aim to promote Malaysia as a reliable source of imports for high quality and competitive products,the Consul General of Malaysia, Mr. Francisco Munis in his speech during a Networking Dinner held on the evening of the 31st October 2011, urged all participating Malaysian Companies and the Consulate General’s Trade Section (MATRADE) to continue finding ways to participate in the Canton Fair with impact, expanding from focusing on foreign buyers to targeting the gigantic domestic Chinese market with quality products. In achieving the aspiration, the Consul General, Mr. Francisco Munis believed that in preparation for the next session of the Canton Fair, the Trade Section (MATRADE) and all participating Malaysian Companies will continue to work closely together with the Canton Fair Organiser, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and local Chinese companies.

With a long history of 55 years since 1957, the China Import and Export Fair, also known as the Canton Fair, is held biannually in Guangzhou every spring and autumn. The Fair is the biggest exhibition in China in terms of sales and it offers a wide range of products, and has over the years attracted many international buyers. With the huge demand for imported products by the Chinese consumers, the organizer had introduced international pavilion as a window for foreign imported products. Malaysia’s participation in the 110th Canton Fair is aimed at the following:
· To promote Malaysia’s exports of products, especially food & beverages, health & wellness products, in the China market and to the world, taking advantage of the strong presence of foreign buyers in Canton Fair.
· To provide Malaysian exporters with a strategic platform to tap the huge China and global market.
· To promote the image of Malaysia as a reliable source of imports for high quality and competitive product.
· To promote MATRADE’s services to foreign and local importers for sourcing product from Malaysia.
