On 23 September 2025 (Tuesday), the Consulate General of Malaysia in Guangzhou held a reception to celebrate the 68th National Day of Malaysia and 62nd Malaysia Day at Shangri-La Hotel, Guangzhou. The event was attended by over 250 guests comprising of Chinese Government officials from Guangdong and Hainan; the diplomatic community; Malaysian and Chinese business community; the Malaysian Student Association of Guangzhou and the Malaysian community working and living in various cities in the Guangdong Province.
Mr. Wang Xuecheng, Vice Chairman of the Guangdong Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) delivered remarks on behalf of the Guangdong Government. Other senior Government officials in attendance were Mr. Wang Guilin, Vice Chairman of the Guangzhou Committee of the CPPCC; Mr. Chen Qiuyan, Director General of the Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Committee of CPPCC Guangdong Commitee; Mr. Chen Guangjun, Acting Director General of Guangdong Foreign Affairs Office; and Mr. Lei Weiju, Deputy Director General of Guangzhou Foreign Affairs Office.
Acting Consul General, Ms. Cornelia Chin expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the Chinese Government officials and guests who were present at the reception despite the looming Super Typhoon Ragasa which was expected to hit Guangzhou the next day and applauded the Malaysians who travelled near and far just to be at the event for their show of patriotism and unity.
Both Ms. Cornelia and Mr. Wang highlighted the close trade and investment relations and people-to-people exchanges between China and Malaysia and expressed hopes for further intensification of cooperations between both countries. Ms. Cornelia also took the opportunity to underscore Malaysia's priorities as ASEAN Chair this year and warmly welcome everyone to explore more of Malaysia's wonders in Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
The event was concluded successfully and many praised the authentic Malaysian food and performance that night.
