The Consul General of Malaysia, Mr. Francisco Munis attended the launching ceremony of the Malaysian Food Festival held on the 26 November 2011 at Guangdong Yihua Department Store in Jiangmen City. In his remark during the Launching Ceremony, the Consul General believes that the initiative taken by Guangdong Yihua Department Store to help promote and market Malaysian products in Jiangmen is rightly made.

The Consul General also stressed that Malaysia is one of the most successful exporters of processed food. Malaysia’s export growth for food and confectionery products such as candy, chocolates, biscuits and cakes over the last five years has increased to 72% with the value of more than USD300 million. Malaysia takes pride in its products which are of high quality. Malaysia’s success in confectionery products was due to the high quality control with internationally acclaimed certification such as the ISO, GMP, HACCP and Halal.

In the effort to position China as Malaysia’s top food and confectionery exports destination, the Consulate General of Malaysia in Guangzhou aims to position Guangdong as a strategic gateway market for Malaysian food and confectionery products. To that the Consul General is confident that Yihua Department Store, being the largest departmental chain in the second tier cities of Guangdong is among its strategic partners.

The Consul General also stressed that there exist vast opportunities for Malaysians to be connected to the people of Jiangmen. His presence in Jiangmen City was also to establish contacts with new friends and hope to be able to establish through the good office of the local government agencies in Jiangmen, beneficial relations between Malaysia and China.
