On the 27 November 2012, upon the invitation of the President of the Shenzhen Polytechnic, the Consul General of Malaysia in Guangzhou, Mr. Francisco Munis visited Shenzhen Polytechnic and witnessed the signing of MOU between Shenzhen Polytechnic and Malaysia University of Science and Technology (MUST). The MOU stipulated that both MUST and SZPT will cooperate to promote academic and educational exchanges. The Consul General had also proposed to both organisations to organise suitable event in 2014 to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Malaysia – China bilateral relations (Malaysia-China Friendship Year).
