First of all I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to the Xiamen Municipal Government and Le Meridien Xiamen, for jointly organising today’s food festival. It is a great pleasure and privilege to address such a friendly gathering in this wonderful city of Xiamen.
We are very excited about the support from the Xiamen Municipal Government and Le Meridien Xiamen in their joint effort to launch today’s event, which will serve as a vital opportunity for the local people of Xiamen to learn more about Malaysia as a must-visit holiday and food destination.
As a multi-racial nation, Malaysia offers a never ending variety of food of distinct tastes and textures. Malay cuisine is rich and full of spices and varies from region to region; for Chinese cuisine there are Cantonese, Hokkien and Sichuan styles; and we also have Indian cuisine that’s famously hot and spicy. There are also cuisines that have evolved from the meeting of cultures notably those of the Nyonya and Indian Muslim communities. Rest assured that in Malaysia there is something to suit all taste buds.
In Malaysia, where there is food, the speeches are normally very short. Today, I shall keep to that tradition. Before I conclude, I look forward to welcoming all our friends from Fujian and Chinese tourists as a whole to visit our beautiful country to experience the truly gastronomic tour Malaysia has to offer.
