THE 16TH ASIAN GAMES / ASIAN PARALYMPICS GAMES

The Malaysian Contingent members for the Asian Games arrived in Guangzhou in stages starting from the first week of November 2010. The Opening Ceremony was attended by the Honourable Minister of Sports and Youth, YB Dato’ Ahmad Shabeery Chik, TYT Duta Besar Malaysia in Beijing, Datuk Iskandar Sarudin as well as the Consul General of Malaysia in Guangzhou, Mr. Francisco Munis. The Consul General also participated in the Team Ceremony held on the 10 November, 2010 as well as other related ceremonies representing the Malaysian Government. Overall, the participation of the Malaysian Contingent was a success achieving the targeted number of gold medals with 9 Gold, 18 Silver and 14 Bronze Medals. The Malaysian contingent members departed for home in stages. During the Closing Ceremony held on the 27 November, Malaysia was represented by the Senior Officials of MOM/MSN and the Consul General in his capacity as the NOC Attaché. With the 16th Asian Games concluded, the Asian Paralympics Games was held from the 12-19 December. The Malaysian Paralympic team also achieved their target of gold medals. The opening ceremony of the Paralympics Games was attended by the Honourable Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Tun Jean Abdullah as well as the Consul General and Consulate Staff.
