On 31 August 2023 (Thursday), the Consulate General of Malaysia in Guangzhou held a reception at Shangri-la Guangzhou to commemorate the 66th National Day of Malaysia and the 30th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Consulate. The event was attended by over 400 people which comprised of local leaders and government officials, diplomatic corp, Chinese investors and businesses as well as the Malaysian diaspora.
The Guest of Honour from the Chinese side was His Excellency Mr. Zhang Shaokang, Guangdong’s Vice Governor. Other senior government officials in attendance were Mr. Cai Hui, Deputy Secretary General of the Guangzhou Municipal Government; Madam Helen Qian Hongjie, Deputy Director General of Guangdong FAO; Mdm. Cai Na, Director General of Haikou FAO; Mr. Chen Xiaofeng, President of Guangdong China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) as well as officials from Hainan and nearby cities in Guangdong.
Madam Suraya Ahmad Pauzi, Consul General of Malaysia in her speech, recalled the visit of YAB Prime Minister’s official visit to China in March this year, reflecting the high-level ties between Malaysia and China. As the two countries one on the cusp of celebrating 50 years of relations in May 2024, it was even more important to strengthen and advance existing bilateral relations of both countries in numerous areas. Madam Consul General also highlighted the strong and multi-faceted Malaysia-China relations which has strong people-to-people ties, and conveyed her confidence in the vast potential that both countries possess to further enhancing trade and investment growth in the post-pandemic era.
The Vice Governor in his remarks, positively echoed the Consul General’s and said that Guangdong is prepared to work with Malaysia to seize new historical opportunities; actively implement the consensus of the leaders of the two countries; strengthen in-depth cooperation in economic, trade, investment, people-to-people tourism; and work together on the Belt and Road Initiative.
