The annual Frankfurt Book Fair was once again held at Messe Frankfurt this year. The Fair, one of the largest of its kind in the world, took place on 19-23 October 2016. Malaysia was also part of the Fair, taking the opportunity to promote Malaysian literature, culture and also cuisine. Throughout the 4-day Fair, some 30 Malaysian publishing companies and agencies that attended the Fair participated in matchmaking meetings with their foreign counterparts to explore new cooperation in the field.  A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Dewan Bahasa Pustaka and (DBP) and Indonesia’s Yayasan Pustaka Obor to establish collaboration in the publication of short stories by Malaysian and Indonesia writers.

In conjunction with “Bulan Bahasa Kebangsaan” (National Malay Language Month) in October, a launching ceremony of the celebration was also held at the Malaysian Pavilion during the Fair. Chief Minister of Perak, the Honourable Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir, was amongst the dignitaries present at the launch event.

A Malaysian food promotion was also held, organized by Malaysian Club Deutschland at Frankfurt Marriott Hotel. Celebrity Chef Dato’ Ismail Ahmad was in attendance.
