Export Business Worth RM2.6 Billion Generated at INTRADE 2008 KUALA LUMPUR, November 17, 2008 – The 2nd International Trade Malaysia 2008 Exhibition (INTRADE Malaysia 2008), which was organised by MATRADE, an agency under Ministry of International Trade and Industry from 13 -16 November had generated actual and potential sales worth RM2.6 billion. According to MATRADE’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Encik Mohd. Kamarudin Hassan, Malaysian companies participating in business meetings organised under its Incoming Buying Mission porgramme (IBM), recorded actual sales of RM202.48 million and potential sales of RM2.41 billion. The key sectors which attracted strong interest among buyers were electrical and electronic products, palm oil, food and beverages, furniture, automotive parts, packaging materials, textiles and apparel, cosmetics, pharmaceutical products and stationery items. He said Saudi Arabia topped the list of buying nations followed by India, South Africa, Japan, Mexico, Nigeria and Ecuador. “Despite the uncertainty in the global economic environment, we are encouraged by the outcomes of INTRADE Malaysia 2008, both in terms of visitors and sales. The results of IBM and feedback from the exhibitors are indication of the opportunities for exporters especially in the new and emerging markets. What is important now is for the Malaysian companies to follow up on the trade leads and contacts made during the four days of INTRADE Malaysia 2008, in order to realise the potential sales generated during the exhibition” added Kamarudin. The three-day Incoming Buying Mission programme held in conjunction with INTRADE Malaysia 2008 saw the participation of 700 buyers from 60 countries representing 545 companies.
