On 5 May 2026, H.E. Nor’ Azam Mohd Idrus, High Commissioner of Malaysia to the Republic of Fiji (“TYT”) held a productive and forward-looking engagement with Mr. Shanil Dayal, Director for Asia Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade (MOFAET), focusing on strengthening Malaysia–Fiji bilateral relations. A key highlight of the discussion was the proposed convening of the 5th Malaysia–Fiji Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM). TYT actively advanced this initiative by exploring practical timelines, demonstrating Malaysia’s commitment to reinvigorating structured bilateral cooperation. Both sides recognised the importance of the SOM to review existing cooperation and identify new areas of collaboration, including trade and economic development. Both are keen in diversifying partnerships and exploring opportunities for deeper engagement. The engagement reflected TYT’s proactive approach in strengthening ties through diplomacy. By moving discussions towards actionable steps, TYT continues to position Malaysia as a reliable and constructive partner. TYT looks forward to working closely with Fijian counterparts to realise the convening of the SOM and further enhance mutually beneficial cooperation.
