GOVERNMENT AWARDS CONTRACT FOR COMPLETION OF LODONI ROAD

Government awards contract for completion of Lodoni road

Government through the Ministry of Public Works Tender Board Resolution has awarded two pending contracts for completion of the Kings/Lodoni road by December 2011 to Naim Cendera Sdn Bhd of Malaysia and Fairdeal Earth Moving Contractors Limited.

Minister for Transport Colonel Natuva said the SCIL contract for supply of sub-base material and base course material of basic contract sum of $14,930,00 (FJD) will be executed simultaneously with the above two contracts, for the duration of two years to December 2011, completion target that will enable the two contractors to commence, execute and complete target to enable the two contractors to commence, execute and complete the scope of works per respective contract award for construction of Waito to Wailotua section and 29km road tar sealing tender awarded.

The total project expenditure of F$75M plus F$8M (estimate) for contingency variation’s, devaluation effect costs and related FRUP (III) project management and contractor supervision cost, will be incurred in the period June 2009 to December 2011.

Colonel Natuva added this project execution by the Government through three contracts execution will result in public sector injection of F$82Million (estimate) by the Government of Fiji and will correlate to positive economic activity and growth, stimulate private sector economic activity, create significant employment of around 1,000 employees, increase GDP and general benefit of the developed infrastructure for the benefit of people of Fiji.

Moreover particular emphasis focuses on the residents of Kings Road and Lodoni Road, who have faced a eleven year delay, for completion of this project.

The target completion date of December 2011 will be achieved by Government of Fiji, for delivery of completed Kings Road and Lodoni Road, as sealed roads with completed bridges.
