H.E. High Commissioner Nor’ Azam Mohd Idrus (“TYT”) led the clean-up campaign for peace, stability, and prosperity at Bilo Settlement on 30 November 2024. The event began with speeches by TYT; Hon. Sakiusa Tubuna, Assistant Minister for Office of the Prime Minister; and Eco Guardians, a Fijian civil society organization. All of them promoted peace stability, and prosperity for all. TYT in particular emphasized the interconnectedness of environmental stewardship and societal well-being as critical factors to promote peace, stability, and prosperity for all. Following the speeches, TYT and Hon. Sakiusa Tubuna officially inaugurated the waste collection and recycling station. That was a significant step towards sustainable waste management. The clean-up activity then took place. A diverse group of participants, including TYT, the Hon. Assistant Minister, members of the media, academia, and civil society organizations, actively participated. Together, they collected trash. In order to support environmental sustainability, recyclable waste was then meticulously sorted to ensure proper disposal and recycling. After enjoying the traditional Fijian lunch prepared by Bilo settlement residents, with all of the ingredients sponsored by MW Suva, children of the settlement participated in an art workshop conducted by Pacific Ocean Litter Youth Project (POLYP). That workshop encouraged the participants to view waste as a resource for artistic creation. That empowered participants with a sense of accomplishment and confidence. Such experiences can contribute to the community’s long-term prosperity, especially as participants grow up believing in their capabilities, developing their skills, and excelling in their chosen fields. Moreover, dedicating time to create art from recyclable waste together during the workshop can promote peace and stability, as it encourages unity and social cohesion. This event, by and large, was a testament to the power of partnerships. Throughout the day, TYT had lots of high impact engagements with strategic partners such as policy makers, media, academia, and civil society organisations on promoting peace stability, and prosperity for all.
