On 27 April 2026, H.E. Nor' Azam Mohd Idrus, High Commissioner of Malaysia (“TYT”), attended a reception aboard the Royal Navy patrol ship HMS Tamar at Suva Wharf. The event marked the United Kingdom's ongoing diplomatic engagements in the Pacific as part of its long-term commitment to the Indo-Pacific region. The reception was attended by Fiji's Prime Minister, the Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka; cabinet ministers; UK FCDO Minister for the Indo-Pacific, Ms. Seema Malhotra; Royal Navy officers; members of the diplomatic corps; senior government officials; and invited guests. Fiji's Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Sakiasi Ditoka, reaffirmed Fiji's vision of the Pacific as an Ocean of Peace and appreciated all nations standing together respectfully with a shared purpose for peace and prosperity. Minister Malhotra highlighted the importance of people-to-people links, education partnerships, and economic collaboration. She announced new funding of £14 million through the UK's Climate Action for a Resilient Asia (CARA) programme, supporting community-focused projects in Fiji, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Tonga, and Tuvalu—including nature-based solutions, food systems, ocean protection, and local preparedness. TYT's attendance reflected Malaysia's consistent practice of maintaining open and friendly diplomatic relations with all partners. Malaysia supports all engagements that contribute to peace and prosperity. TYT’s presence demonstrated Malaysia's commitment to constructive dialogue, information-sharing, and mutual understanding among the diplomatic corps in Suva. Malaysia continues to support a stable, peaceful, and cooperative Pacific region. Engagements of this nature allow Malaysia to stay informed on developments and foster working relationships across diverse partners. This reinforces Malaysia's credibility as a consistent, respectful, and reliable partner in the Pacific.
