On 16 April 2026, His Excellency Nor’ Azam Mohd Idrus, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Fiji (“TYT”), held a constructive engagement with Heads of Mission, namely H.E. Dupito Simamora, Ambassador of Indonesia; H.E. Hiroshi Tajima, Ambassador of Japan; and H.E. Noel Novicio, Ambassador of the Philippines. The engagement formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen ASEAN cohesion and deepen ASEAN–Japan connections in Suva, particularly in advancing practical and forward-looking collaboration in areas of shared strategic interest. Discussions focused on enhancing coordination among ASEAN Missions in Fiji to ensure a more unified and visible ASEAN presence, as well as identifying opportunities to collaborate with Japan. Key areas highlighted included economic resilience, sustainable development, climate action, and capacity building initiatives that directly support Pacific priorities. TYT underscored Malaysia’s continued commitment to ASEAN centrality and unity, as well as Malaysia’s role in promoting inclusive and rules-based regional cooperation. He also reaffirmed Malaysia’s readiness to work closely with ASEAN partners and Japan for mutual benefit. The engagement reflects Malaysia’s proactive diplomatic approach in fostering regular dialogue among ASEAN Missions and key partners, reinforcing shared understanding, and strengthening coordination on regional and cross-regional issues. It also demonstrates the collective intent to ensure ASEAN–Japan relations remain dynamic, responsive, and impactful in addressing emerging challenges.
